Sewing instructions

General steps to sew this garment. Seam allowance is 1 cm (3/8") unless stated otherwise.

Supplies

  • Four-way stretch fabric
  • Bra band elastic
  • Matching thread and the right needle
  1. Print the pattern at 100%, check the test square and cut the pieces following the cutting list. Transfer notches, darts and button marks.
  2. Cut with the greatest stretch running horizontally (around the body). Use pattern weights instead of pins so the knit does not distort.
  3. Sew knits with a serger or a stretch stitch (narrow zigzag) and a ballpoint needle.
  4. Line the body with the same fabric for extra support.
  5. Sew the side seams right sides together and press open or finish the allowances.
  6. Make the straps (turned fabric tubes), adjust the length during a try-on and sew them in place.
  7. Sew swim elastic to the wrong side of the neckline, armholes and leg openings with slight stretch; fold it over and zigzag.
